The National Library of Scotland, advised by international fundraising consultancy, Brakeley Ltd, needed an Interim Campaign Director to establish its new Development Office. John was brought in to recruit staff and prepare for a campaign to raise £6.5m to complete the acquisition of the John Murray archive, the most significant literary treasure trove to have been up for sale in this century.
